Missouri’s College Savings Month Student Contest
September is College Savings Month; an entire month dedicated to recognizing the importance of saving for college. More than 40 states, including Missouri, celebrate College Savings Month, and Missouri is doing something especially notable this year; the State is holding a contest that can help students earn extra money for college.
State Treasurer Clint Zweifel announced the drawing and essay contest on September 3rd. Three lucky students in Missouri will win a $529 contribution from the State to their MOST 529 College Savings Plans. (Not sure what the MOST 529 College Savings Plan is? Check out this post on the Missouri Parent Blog.)
Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to enter a drawing of what they want to be when they grow up, while students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade are invited to submit an essay explaining how higher education will help them reach their goals.
One winner will be selected from each of three age groups; Kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade, and sixth through eight grade. All three winners will be invited to the Missouri State Capital in Jefferson City for an award ceremony with Zweifel.
Entries will be accepted through September 30th. Entries will be judged and the winners notified by phone on or around October 8th. Entry forms and contest details are available on the Missouri MOST 529 College Savings Plan website.
